Jeralyn Powell, MPH, Multicultural Strategist
Jeralyn Powell is a member of The iNSiGHT Cooperative because of her innovative, research-based health messaging experience.
A former fellow at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Jeralyn’s research and strategy techniques are fueled by the mantra, “To target the audience, first become the audience.” With this approach, she has developed social marketing health campaigns focusing on multicultural populations – specifically African Americans, young adults and special needs groups.
Most notably, Jeralyn was a driving force behind the internationally recognized social marketing campaign, BodyLove, produced by Media for Health. This program has allowed her the ability to craft innovative health messaging in various mediums such as film, radio, social media and digital platforms.
Jeralyn’s social marketing work has been presented at national and international conferences – she will be presenting her research at the second International Social Marketing Conference in Dublin, Ireland in April of 2011.
She holds an undergraduate degree in biology from Tennessee State University and a masters of public health focusing on health behaviors and communication from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Jeralyn currently serves as a program manager at UAB.
