Dr. David Deggs, Adult Education Strategist

Dr. David Deggs joined the University of Arkansas following a career in higher education and state government in Louisiana. He teaches graduate courses in adult education, research methods and program evaluation. His research focuses on community expectancy and educational attainment, adult education and literacy, and civic engagement in higher education.

Prior to joining the University of Arkansas, David was program director for Louisiana Campus Compact, a statewide organization of college and university presidents and chancellors dedicated to promoting service-learning and civic engagement in higher education. As program director, he secured approximately $1.3 million in grant funds and managed state level programs for two- and four-year colleges and universities.

While employed at the Louisiana Department of Education, he administered Louisiana’s Adult Education, GED Testing, Strategies to Empower People, and Jobs for America’s Graduates programs, which consisted of 100 programs statewide. As section leader for Adult and Family Literacy Services, he exercised budgetary oversight of $17 million in state and federal funds (Workforce Investment Act of 1998, Title II), including awarding projects for state activities budget and managing the process to award subgrants to local programs.
